When is enough enough? President Trump calls for the death of Democratic lawmakers.

By Nick DiCicco

If you have kept up with my writing, I’m sure your well aware that I have found a majority of President Trump’s actions disgusting, and un-American, but ranting about his actions and discussing the issues that could be controversial and turn many readers away is going to neglect from the severity of what President Trump posted on Truth Social today, and what he “Retruthed.” For if we can not universally agree, whether you love Trump or hate him that these are bad, then truthfully, I no longer have faith in a functioning American democracy.

For context, democratic lawmakers, and former military and intelligence officers released a video two days ago reminding active military that they’re obligation is to the Constitution, not the President, and that they have the obligation to refuse illegal orders, such as the military being deployed against American citizens. There was no call to coup the government, or even reject orders from President Trump, simply that the military should not follow illegal orders, something we as Americans should agree.

The president clearly did not, as this morning he doubled down on hateful and violent rhetoric by not only reposting a Truth Social post that said, “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD,” and posting, “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” Both were in response to the Democratic lawmakers’ video.

Rhetoric like this, is inexcusable from any public official, but especially from the President of the United States. To call for death on members of another branch of government is an impeachable offense.

For the past two months, the Republican party and President Trump have consistently called the democrats the party of violence, blaming them and their rhetoric for the assassination of Charlie Kirk, yet directly call for violence on lawmakers, failing to see or ignoring the hypocrisy.

Unfortunately we live in a political climate where the president is no longer held accountable. I can already hear the excuse of, “Oh, he’s joking,” or “Democrats said it first,” while pointing to an irrelevant, out of context clip of a democrat saying something that is not even one tenth of the degree of severity.

This should not be a partisan issue. If any democratic President, or lawmaker, openly called for the death of another lawmaker, I would instantly support that they lose there office, and I hope that Americans see the severity of the president’s statements, especially when his following is so loyal, as we can see with January 6th.

Now I know it is foolish of me to think that these posts will lead to any sort of punishment or accountability for the president, because like many of his other actions, in a week, Americans will forget about this, and there will be another controversial issue to argue about. My hope, is not that we all agree on every issue regarding the president, but that we all can at least agree his call for lawmakers to be put to death is unhinged, and needs to be acknowledged and handled appropriately.
